Why I Started This Blog

As part of my job at an animal shelter, I collect the emails (and a few letters) we receive from people who have adopted pets from us, and I post them online. In these stories, which we call "Happy Tails," people write to us to share their adoption experiences, describe their pets' first days at home, and tell us how much they love their new pets and how happy they are to have brought them home. Our supporters have often told us that they love reading them, and that's not surprising; everyone likes happy endings.

The other day, I realized that I want to gather more of these happy endings, but on a national scale. My hope in creating this blog, From Alone to Home, is that reading stories like these will encourage people to adopt, or at least to consider visiting a shelter. So, I'm on the hunt for such stories! At this point, I only have two, and they're both about my own pets. If you'd like to relate your experience of adopting a pet from a shelter or rescue group, and share how much you love him or her, please email me.

With this blog, I hope to do my part to make more pets as happy as this one:

Pearl, whom my parents adopted in 2009 from a rescue group

  1. This is a great idea Kate! Love it. I just found your blog through DogTipper and would love to Share the story of my Gretel who I rescued last year. I will send it as soon as I get the chance.

Meanwhile, you can check her out on our blog if you want. She is the choloclate dapple. The story of her pasat and how she came to us is on there under the "meet gretel" category.
